With the week three preseason game in the Colts’ rearview mirror it is time to once again take a look at the game’s snap counts and see if there are any patterns emerging as we head into cutdown week.

Notes:

  • In what is widely viewed as a preview for the regular season, it was odd that Jack Doyle did not play a real role at all. He got just 3 snaps on offense and 2 on special teams.
  • Austin Howard may have finished his time with the Colts after one pretty dreadful series. He was pulled after it and didn’t see the field again.
  • The number of snaps for the offensive linemen remain pretty uniform. It seems like a group that the coaches still haven’t got figured out yet, and I suspect there will be waiver claims made at tackle.
  • Jordan Wilkins finally got the lion’s share of the snaps. He definitely didn’t look as good against starters, but as we’ve discussed elsewhere, the running game as a whole has suffered from defenses run blitzing due to the bland preseason playcalling. The Colts will need more from him come week one.

Notes:

  • Kenny Moore and Pierre Desir got the start on the outside and both played a lot of snaps. Geathers has really ramped up his snaps too.
  • Speaking of getting lots of work, Darius Leonard and Skai Moore need every bit they can get, because they’ll need to grow up fast. Good to see them getting lots of use.
  • Malik Hooker was on a pitch count as we were told he would be, and was in on just 21 snaps. He didn’t hardly look like he had missed a beat.
  • With guys like Robert Jackson, Robenson Therezie, Chris Cooper, and Chris McCain getting only a handful of snaps, it seems likely that these guys aren’t sticking around.
  • Despite getting just 14 snaps, rookie DE Kemoko Turay got 2 hits and a tackle. Ryan Delaire also had 2 QB hits 3 tackles, and 2 sacks in just 17 snaps. If they can consistently provide pressure and get to the quarterback, it’ll be huge for the defense.
