The Indianapolis Colts promoted defensive tackle Jihad Ward to the active roster on Friday, ultimately leaving Erik Swoope the odd man out after the team waived him.

Swoope wasn’t a free agent for long.

According to Colts Reporter Zak Keefer, the Colts are adding Swoope back to the roster, but in a practice squad role.

Ward was an addition to the practice squad on September 3, giving the Colts some added depth up front with Tyquan Lewis and Hassan Ridgeway dealing with injuries. Ward saw time with the Dallas Cowboys, spending a short time with the organization after being cut on September 1. The Cowboys added Ward via trade with the Oakland Raider at the end of April. Raiders had high hopes for Ward, spending the 44th overall pick on him during the 2016 draft. He spent 21 games (14 starts) in Oakland, compiling 33 tackles (22 solo), one sack and one fumble recovery.

Swoope, who was an undrafted free agent, has been in Indianapolis since the 2014 season, appearing in 18 games and catching 16 passes for 310 yards and one touchdown.
