Colts Cast: Reviewing latest Colts’ mocks; Latest Colts news and largest needs

Today we dig back in to the Indianapolis Colts’ approach to the 2019 NFL Draft. With less than two weeks to pass before we see Chris Ballard’s third pull as GM, there are still very differing views on where the team will go with their first selection.

Looking around at the litany of mock drafts from various analysts (here via Colts.com) we see so many going in one particular direction. However, this specific position doesn’t seem to fit Ballard’s approach.

On the other hand, perhaps the second-most common pick is precisely what the Colts should be targeting and fits not only the needs of the team, but the roster building process laid out by Ballard since his time in Indy begun.

What gets interesting is when we start to see those picks pop up which fit a direct need, fit the philosophy, but don’t appear to be gaining much traction with the draft community. Many consecutive years the draft community has pegged the Colts in dire need of a pass rush.

Granted, the current roster has gotten some help through the past draft as well as recent free agent acquisitions, but a dominant, young force at the position is still very much a need one way or another. Yet, very few are handing the Colts defensive ends in their recent mocks.

We also touch on the latest Colts news, speak briefly on the current state of the roster, and discuss how the Colts may approach their first three selections this year.
