Roster Move: Colts sign UDFA RB Aca’Cedric Ware and place WR Steve Ishmael on IR

The Colts made a roster move today, placing wide receiver Steve Ishmael on injured reserve and re-signing running back Aca’Cedric Ware who was released by the team last week.

Steve Ishmael, 6’2” 212lbs, was signed by the Colts last year as an undrafted free agent and was notable for having broken Marvin Harrison’s career record for receiving yards while at Syracuse. Ishmael spent 2018 on the Colts practice squad and was elevated to the active roster briefly before being waived and re-signed to the practice squad.

Ishmael’s untimely knee injury certainly is a disappointing way to end his season, especially in what was an already tough receiver room. Additionally, his being placed on injured reserve ahead of roster cutdowns guarantees that he is not able to return this season and will have to hope he can recover from the injury and get another shot next season.

Aca’Cedric Ware, 6’0” 203lbs, was signed as an undrafted free agent out of USC and spent the early part of camp with the team. He had 46 games played in his time at USC and registered 1,505 yards and 10 touchdowns as well as 19 receptions for 126 yards. Now he will get a chance to get more reps with the team and try to make a mark and carve out a roster spot with Spencer Ware set to miss the first part of the season.

It will be interesting to see if they involve Ware in the game tomorrow night, given that he had already spent time with the team previously and that they are looking to be down a couple running backs with Marlon Mack sitting out and Jordan Wilkins missing practice yesterday with an undisclosed injury.
