Draft a top QB

24 of the last 45 (53%) of super bowls won by 1st round draft picks

3 (.06%) won by 2nd round draft picks

7 (16%) won by 3rd round draft picks

1 (02%) won by 4th round draft picks

7(16%) won by 6th round draft picks
1 (.02%) won by 9th round

1 (.02%) won by 10th round

1 (.02%) won by undrafted

Here is a simple statistical breakdown of winning quarterbacks from the last 45 superbowls. I am not really sure what it actually shows outside the fact that over half of winning teams have used a 1st round draft pick for their quarterback. I can't really tell you why I went back 45 years but when you go back earlier you get into the era of AFL and NFL competing for players plus there were many more rounds to the earlier drafts.

So when a team says it is not about just one player I think the numbers disagree. I think if you take Tom (outlier) Brady out of the figures you see even a bigger argument that having a top quarterback is far more likely to get you a superbowl then having a balanced team with an average quarterback. I would say there are only a few wins from great teams with mediocre quarterbacks. I think if you have a top quarterback supported by a few key players you find a large number of average players with big gaudy rings.

Just rather bored on a Sunday morning waiting for the late start to the games – it was this or call my kids.
