Quarterbacks
- Yes, Watson is still #1. These rankings are based on past and present performance, and Watson is still clearly the best quarterback in the division. Consider this, replace any other quarterback with Watson and the team gets better, but put any AFCS quarterback on the Texans and they would collapse.
- Minshew had his first bad game of the season, he was missing his number one receiver but he struggled against an average opponent.
- Rivers had a solid game against a ravaged Jets’ secondary, he was not required to do much, but he was impeccable in all he did.
Running Backs
- Derrick Henry broke out of his slump and destroyed the Vikings on the ground.
- Jonathan Taylor’s vision does not look good, he needs snaps and time to fix it. In the meantime, Jordan Wilkins looks like the best option out of the backfield.
- James Robinson looks really good, he is quietly having himself an excellent rookie season.
- David Johnson still does not look like a guy you would give your superstar receiver for.
Wide Receivers
- Texans
- Titans
- Jaguars
- Colts
- The Texans gave Watson plenty of weapons, he will light up the scoresheet against weaker opponents.
- Khalif Raymond came out of nowhere and got 3 receptions for 118 yards.
- Rookie wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. is out for at least 5 weeks with a compartment injury. The Colts wide receiver group can’t catch a break.
Tight Ends
- Titans
- Colts
- Texans
- Jaguars
- Jonnu Smith is the best receiving threat in the division and it is not even close.
- MAC had himself another solid game, excited to watch more of him the upcoming weeks with the injuries at wide receiver.
- The Texans and Jaguars do not use their tight ends in the passing game a lot.
Offensive Line
- Colts
- Titans (+1)
- Jaguars (-1)
- Texans
- The Titans offensive line was starting to look better but they also lost starting tackle Taylor Lewan to a shoulder injury.
- The Jaguars struggled some times against the Dolphins’ front 7.
- The Texans have talent on the offensive line, with tackles like Tytus Howard and Laremy Tunsil, but they do not play well as a unit, resulting in plenty of pressure for Watson and a lack of running lanes for Johnson.
Defensive Line
- Colts
- Jaguars
- Titans (+1)
- Texans (-1)
- The Colts have not faced any solid offensive lines this season yet, and they will against a mediocre Bears’ line on Sunday.
- The Jaguars have been okay against the run this season, and Josh Allen is still an outstanding pass-rusher.
- The Steelers ran all over the Texans.
Linebackers
- Colts
- Titans (+1)
- Jaguars (-1)
- Texans
- Bobby Okereke has taken over as the Colts starting linebacker next to Darius Leonard.
- Jayon Brown is one of my favourite defensive players in the AFCS.
- The Jaguars linebacker group is still solid, but the Titans are better right now.
- The Texans entire front 7 is a mess.
Secondary
- Titans
- Colts
- Jaguars
- Texans
- Rookie cornerback Kristian Fulton had a sack for the Titans, he has looked really good so far this year.
- Xavier Rhodes got 2 interceptions and returned one for a touchdown, earning AFC defensive POTW honours.
Special Teams
- Jaguars
- Titans (+2)
- Texans (-1)
- Colts (-1)
- Stephen Gostowski earned special teams POTW after going 6/6 on field goals and nailing his one XPA after struggling the first two weeks.
- Rodrigo Blankenship missed a 41-yarder right before halftime off the right upright. He has been way better than Vinatieri, but the thought of him having to nail a game winner terrifies me.
- Rigoberto Sanchez has been impeccable so far this season, being completely honest with you, I have absolutely no idea how the rest of the AFCS punters have been playing.
