Nice bounce back game for Rivers. Don’t look for Brissett to start anytime soon.

The Rivers we saw today certainly justified Frank Reich’s confidence in him. As bad as he was against Cleveland that’s how good he was today. Rivers may not be our long term answer at QB. But he is this years answer.

After the Browns game I had some concerns about Rivers lack of escapability, and mobility. Arm strength, and throwing outside the pocket, didn’t look great in that game either. In my mind I questioned whether we can beat the top AFC teams with the 38 year old, slow footed Rivers. I know I wasn’t alone in my concerns, because after the Cleveland game Frank Reich fielded a bunch of questions on his starting QB. But his response was " Rivers is the least of my worries ". Rivers going 29 for 44 for 371 yards and 3 TD’s, makes Reich’s response look pretty good.

Rivers wasn’t my first choice, in terms of bringing in a veteran QB for the Colts. I preferred guys like Winston, Cam Newton, if healthy, Carr, and Foles, if we could work a deal, mostly because of the age difference. I did however prefer Rivers to Brissett. The Rivers we saw today is an upgrade on what we saw from Brissett last year. Rivers touch and accuracy is better. He’s the superior pocket passer. Why not, after all he is a future hall of famer.

Reich has legit confidence in Rivers. He’s not giving lip service to that. If Rivers remains healthy I wouldn’t look for Brissett to replace him anytime soon. I doubt we’ll see any real QB controversies in Indy this year.
