Colts Injury Report: 3 Starters DNP Including Castonzo and Leonard

The Indianapolis Colts today released their Wednesday injury report for week 5 of the NFL season.

Tight end Trey Burton did not practice today due to a scheduled rest day. This shouldn’t really come as a surprise as it was only late last week that he was activated off injured reserve. Burton will likely continue to have rest days going forward as he works his way back to full fitness.

Left tackle Anthony Castonzo did not practice today due to a rib injury he sustained late in the game against the Bears. Castonzo missed the last few snaps against the Bears due to the rib injury and was replaced in the lineup by tackle Le’Raven Clark. Losing Castonzo would be a worst possible scenario due to the limited depth behind him and also due to the level of competition, Browns Myles Garrett, they are set to face on Sunday.

Linebacker Darius Leonard did not practice today due to a groin injury he picked up in the Bears game. Leonard ended up being ruled out during the Bears game. Leonard is the captain of the defense and leads by example so losing him for the Colts defense biggest test to date would be hugely problematic.

Linebacker Bobby Okereke did not practice due to a thumb injury. Frank Reich announced to the media yesterday that Okereke had undergone surgery on his thumb after the game. Okereke could very well ramp practising this week and play with a club but for now his availability for Sunday is very shaky at best. Okerek is definitely one to monitor especially with Leonard injured too.

Speaking of injured linebackers why stop at two. EJ Speed also got injured in the Bears game in which he injured his elbow. Frank Reich told the media Speed went for a scan on his elbow on Monday and it appears it went well as he managed to practice in a limited capacity which is huge as the team is starting to look thin at linebacker.

Cornerback TJ Carrie practiced in a limited capacity today. Seeing Carrie able to practice is good news as he was ruled OUT of the Bears game with a hamstring injury. Potentially getting Carrie back will be huge as he is an important part of the depth at cornerback with his versatility in being able to play outside and in the slot. The Colts will need all the help they can get in trying to stop the Browns wide receivers.
