The Indianapolis Colts have officially signed former Chargers quarterback, Philip Rivers, to a one year contract worth around $25,000,000, according to Adam Schefter.
Throughout the last few months, Rivers has been linked to the Colts by various media members and has ties to the team through coaches Frank Reich and Nick Sirianni, who both coached him in San Diego.
Rivers, who is 38 years old, is entering his 17th season in the NFL and his first with a team not named the Chargers. He has amassed 59,271 passing yards with 397 touchdowns and 198 interceptions in his career. He has also never missed a start due to injury (has started every game since 2006).
This move follows the Colts’ trade and signing of DeForest Buckner yesterday.
Details are still to follow about the exact terms of the contract, such as the base salary and bonuses, but we know that this contract is worth 25M and it is one year.
The Colts currently have 3 quarterbacks under contract with Jacoby Brissett, Brian Hoyer and Chad Kelly. According to Ian Rapoport, the Colts are expected to keep Jacoby Brissett, who is under contract for one more season at 21M dollars per season. That means that the Colts would have over $46,000,000 tied up in their starting and backup quarterbacks.
This move would leave the Colts with approximately 20M left in salary cap space. More details to follow, so keep checking back in this article for the latest updates.
