Hoping to see Nyheim Hines as our primary punt returner.

Recently Frank Reich talked about Nyheim Hines getting some touches on all three downs, and being more integrated into our offense. Glad to hear that. Hines is an excellent pass receiver and an explosive player. Mack and Taylor will get the bulk of the carries, and touches, in any given game. That is as it should be. But I suspect Rivers, given his history with RB’s, will find Hines out of the backfield on a fairly regular basis.

Another way to get, the explosive, Hines touches is to have him be our primary punt returner. In my opinion, Hines has earned that role. In the 2019, Carolina game his exploits were, nothing short of, historic. Hines set a franchise record with 195 punt return yards, and two TD’s. He had three big returns in that game. Jim Irsay compared that performance to the exploits that we saw, years ago, from Gale Sayers. I agree. The performance was Sayers like.

On a side note, Hines is a good guy. He gave the guys blocking on special teams the credit for those three long punt returns. So, I’m hoping to see a lot more of Hines, on offense, and especially on punt returns. Let’s see if the Carolina game foreshadowed more good things to come.
