Colts-Vikings announce Week 2 inactives: Rock Ya-Sin a surprise inactive leaving CB corps short

NFL: Indianapolis Colts at Pittsburgh Steelers Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

As the Indianapolis Colts prepare for their home opener against the Minnesota Vikings, the team’s injury situation has gotten a bit dicey throughout the week. Originally the team had three players that were unable to participate in Wednesday’s practice (Jack Doyle-ankle/knee, Zach Pascal-ankle, and Malik Hooker-illness).

However, Thursday presented more issues as Justin Houston and Isaiah Rodgers were non participants, and Julian Blackmon as well as Michael Pittman were limited in practice. Hooker did return Thursday, and Pascal has regained some health as the week has progressed as well.

Come Friday, Jack Doyle was officially ruled out and the team elevated Farrod Green from the practice squad. Additionally, Pittman did not participate, and was listed as questionable. Since then, it’s been reported that Pittman was not expected to go today which makes Pascal getting healthy throughout the week that much more important.

As it stood Friday, Blackmon, Houston, Rodgers, and Pascal were all listed as questionable along with Pittman. Today, however, there are more surprises. Pittman will be active, yet Dezmon Patmon will not be. The major surprise here, is that Rock Ya-Sin is inactive today leaving the cornerback room very short for the day. With Rodgers already banged up this week, the team will have just T.J. Carrie, Kenny Moore, and Xavier Rhodes to hold the bulk of the snaps for the day.

With the Colts carrying 7 receivers on the active roster, the Colts cornerbacks have thus been shorthanded now with the mystery inactive for Ya-Sin. He was not on the injury report this week, and we haven’t heard of any Covid related issues or positive tests that would suggest that was the case today. We’ll likely all find out together throughout the broadcast, or in the postgame press conference.

Update: Colts writer Andrew Walker suggests that Ya-Sin was a last minute scratch due to illness.
