The Indianapolis Colts announced on Sunday that the team has signed 14 players to their 2020 practice squad—and there are some familiar faces on their newly assembled taxi squad:
- CB Andre Chachere
- DT Kameron Cline
- OG Jake Eldrenkamp
- WR Daurice Fountain
- TE Farrod Green
- DE Gerri Green
- TE Xavier Grimble
- WR DeMichael Harris
- C Joey Hunt
- QB Chad Kelly
- OT Carter O’Donnell
- CB Tremon Smith
- DT Chris Williams
- DT Rob Windsor
Due to COVID-19 concerns, the size of each NFL practice squad has expanded from 10 to a maximum of 16 players this season—meaning that the Colts still have two potential spots available (under the new CBA, and in a post-COVID time, practice squads will restrict to a 12 player maximum limit—so this is more of special exception year).
Also, this year, every player is eligible for the practice squad—no matter the amount of NFL seasons already accrued (but only 6 of the 16 total spots can be filled with veterans with an unlimited number of accrued seasons).
The biggest names on the Colts’ new practice squad are obviously WR Daurice Fountain (2018 5th round pick), DT Rob Windsor (2020 6th round pick), OG Jake Eldrenkamp, and QB Chad ‘Swag’ Kelly—who remains a fan favorite.
In other roster moves, the Colts placed DT Sheldon Day (knee) on injured reserve, who’s expected to be out a handful of weeks rehabilitating his knee. If he can get healthy, Day might be a top candidate to return later in the year (depending on how the rest of the Colts’ team injuries shake out).
The Colts also re-signed OT Chaz Green, who was released in a corresponding roster move when the team claimed former Philadelphia Eagles tight end Noah Togiai off of NFL waivers earlier on Sunday.
