Report: Colts Assistant GM Ed Dodds is Withdrawing from the Carolina Panthers GM Opening

According to the IndyStar’s Joel Erickson, Indianapolis Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds is withdrawing his name from consideration for the Carolina Panthers open general manager job:

It’s not the first time that Dodds has removed his name from consideration for a general manager opening—as he did the same thing a year prior for the Cleveland Browns.

Dodds is more than qualified enough to become an NFL general manager somewhere, but he appears comfortable in Indianapolis. He’s also cited ‘unfinished business’ in the past for wanting to remain in Indianapolis to see out a championship.

While a general manager position presumably comes with more power/authority, greater salary, and overall prestige, it also comes with more responsibility, added pressure, and team shortfalls to individually answer to.

It’s obviously encouraging news for the Colts football operations department though, as Dodds has served as Chris Ballard’s ‘right hand man’ since his arrival in 2017 and has been highly regarded for his scouting acumen among league circles. His loss would be a big one.

Prior to joining the Colts, Dodds previously served as the Seattle Seahawks Senior Executive Personnel Director (2015-2017) and a longtime national scout.

Colts fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that Dodds will remain in Indianapolis—at least for one more year during 2021.
