Colts-Jaguars announce Week 17 inactives: Wilkins added to Covid list; Chark, Robinson out for Jags

NFL: Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts are set to host the Jacksonville Jaguars in what is now the most important game of the season. As if the Colts already weren’t gunning to avenge their Week 1 loss in Duval, the Colts have no avenue that leads them to the playoffs if they fail to make it to 11-5.

Anthony Castonzo was placed on Injured Reserve earlier in the week, and the Colts brought up NFL veteran OL Jared Veldheer from the practice squad after signing him following their Week 16 loss to Pittsburgh. The Colts are also without Will Holden who played pretty well in Castonzo’s absence, making the offensive line a very fluid situation at the very worst possible time.

The Colts will also be without Khari Willis, Rock Ya-Sin — both with concussion symptoms — and rookie WR Michael Pittman was listed as questionable Friday with concussion issues of his own, but that designation was lifted after he cleared protocol. That is great news for Philip Rivers and the Colts’ offense. Going down one of the more talented options for Rivers at the skill positions would not have been an ideal situation in a must-win game.

The Colts, while not being without a lot of players on the defensive side of the ball, are fairly banged up in positions where they’re already thin. Additionally, the team just announced that Jordan Wilkins is out and has been placed on the Covid-19 list, which activates Darius Anderson for the game, but still takes another shot at the Colts’ running game.

The Colts simply cannot afford to have anything less than a quality game from anyone who steps on the field today. While the Jaguars are pitiful, the Colts in Week 1 are still their only win of the season, and they are capable of doing it again if the Colts aren’t mentally and physically all in with everything on the line.

Aside from what we already knew heading into this game, Ben Banogu returns to the healthy scratch list, and Demichael Harris, and Noah Togiai are also inactive today. Otherwise there are no surprises with the Colts’ list.
