The AFC playoffs field is now set, and the #7 AFC Seed Indianapolis Colts (11-5) will take on the AFC East Champion, the #2 AFC seed Buffalo Bills (13-3) next weekend in the Wild Card round of the postseason.
The Colts made it more interesting than anticipated, but Indianapolis ultimately took care of business against the Jacksonville Jaguars, 28-14, in what was a must-win game in the season finale.
It was one which Indianapolis knew that a ‘win and they were in’ ahead of time following the Buffalo Bills blowing out the Miami Dolphins during the early wave of games. It was just a matter of whether the Colts could beat the rebuilding Jaguars at home and avoid the upset.
While the Colts still had a chance to win the AFC South Title following their win, the Tennessee Titans narrowly escaped the Houston Texans, as Titans kicker Sam Sloman’s 37-yard field goal hit the right upright and went in at the end of regulation, 41-38.
The Titans (#4 seed) instead win the division and host the Baltimore Ravens (#5 seed), but the Colts are in a better position than they were to start the day: in the AFC playoffs.
Even though the Bills present a tough matchup for the Colts, an opportunity to be in the playoffs is better than no opportunity at all to make some postseason noise and potentially extend the team’s season.
The Colts earned a playoff spot again for the first time since 2018, as it’s the second time in the past three seasons for the franchise.
