Betting Against the Spread Week 8

There’s no warning about gambling this week because first of all, there’s actually data that suggests warning people NOT TO GAMBLE simply makes them MORE LIKELY TO GAMBLE. Uncork that in your brain. Warning people not to do something because it’s a bad idea makes them more likely to do it. What a world!

Straight away, we’ve been absolutely on fire this year betting underdogs. Is this easier than picking winners? Probably. Are we also hitting over 70% correct betting against the spread? Yes.

Thursday Night Football has been our lock so far and it doesn’t appear to be stopping because Vegas has the Green Bay Packers +6.5 on the road against the Arizona Cardinals. I understand Davante Adams is on the COVID-19 list, but also, JJ Watt is out and most likely for the season. I’m still confident that the Packers can keep this close and if they don’t, it’s one game!

There’s only one other game this week that I’m interested in betting on the underdog and that’s the Pittsburgh Steelers +3.5 against the Cleveland Browns. I want this to be a bitter rivalry and then a better football game, but I just simply don’t believe in Cleveland. I do believe in Mike Tomlin, though. This is the Browns’ first division game this season and the AFC North is just built different, amirite?

Beyond the Packers and the Steelers, there are going to be a lot of bad NFL games this week. In fact, each of my next two picks are full-on blowouts. I’ll take the LA Rams -14.5 on the road against the Texans with even less talent than last week! I’ll also take the Buffalo Bills -13.5 at home against the Dolphins.

Lastly, and I know this will draw a laugh from some of you, but I actually think the Colts -1 bring some parity to the division and get a big home win on Sunday. Pro tip, if you think the Colts secondary is bad, just wait until you see what the Titans trot out come Sunday. Carson Wentz is going to have a big day, methinks.
