The Indianapolis Colts announced on Thursday that the team has activated Dezmon Patmon from the team’s injured reserve, while placing starting safety Khari Willis on injured reserve in a corresponding 53-man active roster move.
Willis suffered a calf injury during last Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans and did not return to the game. He was already declared ‘out’ for Thursday night’s game against the New York Jets yesterday.
With fellow starter Julian Blackmon already lost for the season, the Colts figure to deploy some combination of Andrew Sendejo, George Odum, and Josh Jones at safety—which isn’t ideal to say the least. The Colts also elevated veteran safety Jahleel Addae as extra experienced depth from their practice squad—who should provide added versatility.
The Colts have been quiet on Willis’ actual diagnosis, but the hope is that he only might be out close to the 3-week minimum—and it’s not an extended absence.
Meanwhile, 2nd-year wideout, Dezmon Patmon, could see some limited snaps with veteran T.Y. Hilton also out with a concussion.
The Colts take on the New York Jets (2-5) tonight at 8:20 PM EST on FOX/NFL Network.
