The talk on Andrew Ogletree and the TE/RB depth got me thinking about the 53-man roster. I will subtract out the Special Teams trio of Kicker, Punter, and Long Snapper, and focus on the remaining 50-players. Here is how it looks to me right now.

The pretty obvious roster locks:

Offense (16 locks):

QB (2): Matt Ryan, Nick Foles

RB (2): Jonathon Taylor, Nyheim Hines

TE (2): Mo Alie-Cox, Jelani Woods

WR (4): Michael Pittman, Parris Campbell, Alec Pierce, Ashton Dulin

OL (6): Ryan Kelly, Quenton Nelson, Matt Pryor, Braden Smith, Danny Pinter, Bernhard Raimann

Defense (15 locks):

DE (3): Yannick Ngakoue, Kwity Paye, Dayo Odeyingbo

DT (2): DeForest Buckner, Grover Stewart

LB (3): Shaquille Leonard, Bobby Okereke, Zaire Franklin

CB (4): Stephen Gilmore, Kenny Moore, Brandon Facyson, Isaiah Rodgers

S (3): Julian Blackmon, Nick Cross, Rodney McCleod

That leaves 19 roster spots to be competed for. A lot of those will come down to Special Teams contributions which are as important as Offense and Defense, but get little credit.

Subtracting out the locks, here are the remaining competition and lead candidates;

RB (1-2 remaining): Phillip Lindsay, Deon Jackson, D'vonte Price, Tyson Williams

TE (1-2 remaining): Kylen Granson, Andrew Ogletree

OL (3-4 remaining): Alex Mollette, Will Fries, Jason Spriggs, Ryan Van Demark

Defense (I am lumping together DE/DT, since there are some players who play both):

DL (3-5 remaining): Tyquan Lewis, Ifeadi Odenigbo, Ben Banogu, Chris Williams, Curtis Brooks, Byron Cowart, Kameron Cline, Eric Johnson

LB (2-3 remaining): JoJo Domann, EJ Speed, ???

CB (1-3 remaining): Marvell Tell, Tony Brown, Anthony Chesley, Chris Wilcox, Marcel Dabo

S (1-2 remaining): Armani Watts, Marcel Dabo, Trevor Denbow

That is 32 players. I'm sure that there are a few more CB's with a shot, and several LB's with a shot, and there are always some longshots that impress.

I italicized 10 players who I think are solidly above the cut line. Which moves the on-roster count to 41. Leaving 9.

I think Nyheim Hines gets removed from returns this season. He's good, but not so great that the injury risk is worth it. D'vonte Price would be a candidate I want to see try returns.
