Did the Indianapolis Colts almost have the most dynamic quarterback room in the league?

Unless if you’ve been sleeping under a rock, you probably have heard that the Pittsburgh Steelers have obtained former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin fields in a trade.

What you you may not have heard is that the Indianapolis Colts reportedly made a play for the former first round pick. In fact, Benjamin Allbright has reported that the Colts made a call regarding Fields.

Since talks between the Colts and the Bears never progressed, it could be safe to assume it wasn’t all about draft capital. The Steelers only sent a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Bears that converts to a fourth-round selection if Fields plays 51% of snaps this season. This wasn’t a high price to pay at all if you ask Mel Kiper - where is Bill Tobin when you need him?

This is mere speculation, but if the draft capital wasn’t too steep for the Colts, it may have been the fact that Fields wanted to go to a team where he saw a potential future with.

The move is likely the best move for Fields, who can potentially be the quarterback of the future for the Steelers, while the Colts have their quarterback in Anthony Richardson.

Joe Flacco may not be as flashy of an offseason pickup, but he may be the mentor that Richardson needs as he looks to develop into a franchise quarterback.

Tensions appear to have reached a tipping point.

Unless if you’ve been living under a rock, then you’ve probably heard that there was a bit of a Twitter spat between Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay and Jonathan Taylor’s agent.

Taylor’s agent, Malki Kawa has gone as far as saying that he doubts the team’s relationship with the star running back can be fixed. That said, Jim Irsay seems to believe otherwise:

“The comment wasn’t really directed at Jonathan,” Irsay shared with ESPN. “We haven’t exchanged any contract numbers with each other or anything like that. So, it’s not like we’re in the midst of that. I think we had a tough season last year. Didn’t win a lot of games. This is a year about coming back together and having a great year and we’re really depending on Jonathan to team up with Anthony Richardson to try and pull together to have a great year.”

Irsay additionally shared that he’d like for Taylor’s extension to get done after this season.

“Our hope is Jonathan has an outstanding year and that we have a good year as a team and then we get his next contract done. That’s the hope. We think the world of him as a person, as a player. It’s just timing. When your time comes to get paid, then you get paid.”

It would be easy to speculate that Taylor wants to get a deal done now where as the Colts want to wait till next offseason which could cause some conflict.

That said, with Irsay trying to publicly clear the air, it does appear he wants Jonathan Taylor to remain an Indianapolis Colt. Which makes me believe no matter how ugly the social media bout got, cooler heads will prevail.

The NFL’s all time leading scorer is considering making a return.

Adam Vinatieri is one of the greatest place kickers to have played in the NFL. His endless accolades, clutch kicks, and overall career longevity have positioned him to be wearing a gold jacket in Canton Ohio one day. However, he would need to retire before he puts on that jacket - and it appears retirement may not be as soon as you’d think for the 48 year-old.

In a recent interview on the occasionally NSFW Pat McAfee show, the former Indianapolis Colt was asked if he was considering a comeback, and his response was intriguing to say the least.

“All I’m saying buddy is It’s taken me a year to get back & now I’m feeling pretty good.” Vinatieri said.

It’s worth noting that the last time Vinatieri played was in 2019, which was easily the worst year of his storied career. In that season he converted a mere 68% of his field goals on 17 of 25 attempts. The tumultuous year for the clutch kicker was cut short, as he underwent season ending surgery and was placed on injured reserve.

If the NFL’s all time leading scorer decides to make a comeback, he would be a free agent. The Colts have moved on with a young solid kicker in Rodrigo Blankenship who set the team record for points in a rookie season.

The odds appear to be stacked against Vinatieri, who will be 49 years old before the conclusion of the 2021 season. That said ruling out a successful comeback attempt for the NFL’s greatest kicker is something I’m not willing to do.

Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack suffered a hand injury in Sunday’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Indianapolis Colts have plenty of reasons to feel good Sunday, after their dominate 33-13 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Colts physical offensive line paved the way for a ground and pound approach which amassed well over 200 yards rushing.

Unfortunately for the team, the win wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Rising star running back Marlon Mack left the game with a hand injury. Mack had success seemingly every time he touched the ball against the Jaguars defense. He totaled 109 yards on 14 carries including one electrifying touchdown run.

This is obviously a disappointment for Mack, who was in the mist of a breakout campaign in 2019. The fourth round draft pick, has emerged as a top 10 running back, pilling up 862 yards, and 4 touchdowns on 192 carries.

The Colts have four days to to prepare for a major divisional battle in Houston. It appears the team could be without offensive weapons: Marlon Mack, T.Y. Hilton, and Parris Campbell.

The Indianapolis Colts are sticking with their veteran place kicker.

It’s no secret that Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri has struggled this year. The 24-year veteran is having the worst season of his career, and unfortunately hasn’t shown any signs of getting better.

Amid these struggles, the organization brought in four kickers to work out and compete for Vinatieri’s job on Tuesday.

With Adam Vinatieri's recent struggles, the Colts worked out kickers Elliot Fry, Greg Joseph, Mike Nugent and Nick Rose.
— Field Yates (@FieldYates) November 12, 2019

That said, as of Wednesday afternoon the Colts feel that the grass isn’t greener on the other side, and are sticking with the legendary kicker:

“Adam is our kicker. Chris and I have talked about the situation... Obviously there have been other kickers in here... (But) When you take a look, we believe Adam is the answer.” Head Coach Frank Reich said.

The team’s stance on the situation has some fans angry, as they feel that Vinatieri is to blame for some of the losses the Colts have endured this season.

This argument does have some merit. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean there are better options on the open market.

Vinatieri has been consistent throughout his career - and it appears the team feels it’s more likely that Vinatieri can find his stride than that unproven kicker could sign with the team and perform at a consistent level.

All that being said, this is the second time this season that the Colts have worked out kickers. While publicly the team has Vinatieri’s back, it’s possible that behind closed doors his time is running out.
